Our short ride to Paracas was to allow us time to enjoy our destination without needing a “rest day.” This section of the Pan American Highway features barren hills which emote an eerie desolation despite the freight trucks which travel this main artery in South America. It’s strange to have the major highway still go through small villages.
In those villages I saw many vehicles representing popular categories in Peru: 3 wheel taxis and old US muscle cars from the 70s.
Paracas is situated on the Pacific Ocean near a National Wildlife Reserve. Heavy seas prevented us from taking a boat to explore this unique ecosystem. That was just fine with me. We’re staying at a Doubletree Resort, a Hilton property. All my business stays at Hilton properties qualified me for an upgrade to an ocean front room. The view is splendid and the ocean breeze wafts through my 2 room suite. The only down side is that heavy beat music associated with the Volkswagen Dealers’ Convention beach party is competing with the sound of the ocean breakers, and winning.
