Ecuador, Here We Come

Piura, in the coastal desert of northern Peru, has altitude of about 250 ft. Today was all up hill from there. By the time we reached the Ecuador border, we were at 1500 ft. We had made the climb from the land of rice paddies and trees covered with bright red/orange blossoms to mountains covered with both greenery and clouds.

At one point, we reached 8700 ft. One section reminded me exactly of the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. The clouds were coming up from the valley and rolling over the road.

Without warning sections of dirt and gravel appeared in my path, usually right after blind curves. Each of the critters shown shared the pavement with me today, some in very close proximity.

The Howard Johnson hotel in Loja wins my award for the best pool set up of the trip. Under a translucent canopy I enjoyed the huge swimming pool and the first hot tub we’ve encountered during our 3 ½ months of travel.
