One week!

One week from today we’ll be in Bremerhaven, Germany trying to get our bikes freed from Customs. I rescued my Suzuki when it was shipped here from my European trip in 1979, but I was dealing with native English speakers. Hopefully language won’t be too big a problem. We’ve scanned all our documents to our hard drives and emailed them to ourselves. In case the computers are lost or damaged, we can log on from other computers and retrieve our data. Cathy and I each have an HP Mini netbook so we can maximize available connect time.

We need to be in Mieming, Austria Saturday 11/19 for our kickoff dinner and be ready to start our adventure on Sunday morning. That’s about 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) from Bremerhaven. Time through customs will determine if we can add Denmark, Belgium, and Luxembourg to our list of countries or have to blast directly down the autobahn.

Final preparations are mainly going as planned. Cathy’s last day at work is Monday and we leave the next day. Crunch time!

Welcome to my birthplace! Bremen by Bremerhaven. Many English speakers here – you’re in luck! Safe journey.

Current forecast for Thursday is 60% chance of rain and temps in the low 40s. If you have a friend in the Bremerhaven weather bureau, please ask them to do better.

Just remember to keep the shiny side up!
