Rolling sand dunes

From the Atlas mountains, back to the desert in one day. The first 2/3 of the day are Edelweiss Bike Travel miles. Wide sweeping turns and picture perfect scenery as we descend to the sandy plain. We turn off the tour bus highway onto a Globe Busters rough two lane road with tractors. Our hotel is 6km down a two-track dirt road. Merzouga doesn’t even have a gas station. Majestic sand dunes are all around us.

Our group dinner tonight was a five minute walk out in the desert. A sheep was hung in an oven over a fire and cooked for three hours. Cathy said it was the best lamb she’d ever eaten. Kevin claims that Patagonia has the best lamb. We will see. Quartet playing stringed instruments and drums serenaded us as we sat around a fire drinking native liqueurs.
