It’s been busy today. The left lens fell out of my glasses, the insurance company finally approved a vacation override on my prescription and the tow truck came to pick up Cathy’s company car. Today was Cathy’s last day and changed her voice mail greeting to “I’m retired.” We fly out tomorrow afternoon to Frankfurt. That’s the closest city served by Delta to Bremerhaven, Germany. The ship with our bikes docked there early yesterday, so our bikes should be unloaded and ready for us to pick up Wednesday. Trains were more expensive than a one-way car rental, so we’ll drive right to the dock. We should be able to start riding Thursday, but their weather forecast is temps in the 40s and 60% chance of rain. Looks like we’ll start our trip wearing electric heated clothes and rain suits! On route weather may improve, but our destination in Austria is schedule to have snow showers on Saturday. Arles, France will be 55F on Tuesday and Spain will be in the 60s. Morocco and the Sahara will be warmer still, so the cold weather will be short-lived. Having grown up in the Midwest, we’re not strangers to riding in cold and snow.
Comcast picks up the cable TV and internet tomorrow am, so our next communication will probably from Europe. Stay tuned.
